You find out a lot about yourself. You find your breaking point or the wall as some people call it. This is where you have to find yourself and become stronger. You can be changed by this activity. I’ve seen some people come in really shy and by the end, are ready to take on the world because drum corps helped them find themselves.
The activity itself is phenomenal. It’s like a separate world from reality. I think that’s why some people love it so much. I know it’s one of the reasons I do. You get to be away from all the real life problems and just focus on what you love, music. You get to be with people who want to accomplish the same goals as you do and make some awesome friendships that could last a lifetime.
Sure it’s intense, tedious, and tiresome at times, but I think the reward of performing outweighs all of those negative things. It’s honestly something I never experienced before until I did it. I think it’s addicting. I love the fact that you can put on a show for a crowd and have people react to it. I love that this activity can bring total strangers together and make them a family. The DCI community is something I am honored to be a part of every day of my life.
we’ve all had crushes we very strongly regret
